January

Still two months until weather brings
its first promise of long sought spring
when robins bloom and flowers sing
apple blossoms and honey bees
April showers and scented trees
grass so green to startle my eye
puffy clouds in happy skies
purples and reds and yellow flowers too
a rainbow cast of all soft hues
birds on high and bugs below
fresh mowed lawns to and fro
so lovely the season of earthly art
’tis Nature’s blessing for an old man’s heart

Vivaldi Four Seasons - Winter for your listening enjoyment.

vivvaldi winter

Winter

Barren trees huddle in cold deep sleep
Unfelt breezes whisper minuets
A browning leaf dances before my door
Winter has come -- the sun has set

A time to lay a fire on the hearth this eve
To drive damp chill from my bones
A candle lights the window pane
In silence I reminisce alone

The end of day was a wondrous time
To share with my true love
She left my world so suddenly
To soar on the winds above

Spring will come -- I'll still be alone
Another season we shall be apart
seasons cannot mend a broken man
A man who's lost his one true heart

Ken has been a photography internet friend for about ten years. He shoots with a Pentax and writes some excellent short stories as well as poetry. He has been kind enough to let me use his forsythia in the snow photo and these two poems. Sorry to say his writing blog has been removed.

Ken's obituary

Sad to see that Ken passed away on August 20, 2015. I will surely miss him.
On his Face Book page he said he was not afraid; and he said, I've danced my dance; and now the fiddlers wait to be paid; I am so out out of here. His Face Book page: https://www.facebook.com/heartman44?fref=nf
