from the original: Here is a view of some of the surrounding plantings and edgings. The minature cattail is a delight and is very good in dried flower arrangements. The mermaid cement statue is a nice addition to the half barrel. The marsh marigold is a shallow water plant that puts on a show beside the waterfall in early spring. I have had floating plants, such as the water hyacinth and others, but I find that I prefer to see the water surface rather than the surface carpeting plants.
The mermaid now sits by the waterfall, over looking a little pendula willow and into the pond. There are a few photos of the river otter that invaded the pond and lunched on the koi. I no longer keep koi. The heron was a regular visitor, as well as racoons. I haven't seen any of these predators recently, but have far worse problems with the 2 legged ones from next door who are constantly destroying things in my garden.
