Steps 5 to 8
After filling the pond and seeing that it is level all around, I began setting the flat rocks around the edges. This holds the lining in place. This rock necklace is a rather amature treatment for the edges. I did not put a cement base down for the edges and now wish that I had, as the soil is falling behind the liner and eroding the edges, causing the rocks to tip into the pond. (8 years later). I have placed cement blocks around the edging on 2 sides for firmer footing to walk on past the Japanese garden area and over to a small sitting area. I have started planting the surrounding area. The lowest corner of the pond drains past the cement blocks and down to the dry stream where the Japanese lantern sits. I have mounded up the dirt and created the waterfall. It has liner with cement covering and rocks set into the wet cement to try to hold them more firmly in place. The pump is plugged in and runs 24/7.
My notes say I have 62 hours invested in the project to the end of step 7. The rock work, waterfall, and surrounding planting seem to have taken longer than the digging.
