Step 3 - Set the liner in the bottom of the hole and unfold it to the top edges, creating creases or folds to take up the extra width of liner all around. You can see the 2 shelves on the long sides, for shallow water plants. The shelves are about 20 inches down and about 18 wide. This depends on the size of pot you want to use, and the kind of plant you will be setting on the shelf. Most plants can deal with a range of depth of water; that is: a few inches deeper or more shallow does not matter. I set a few rocks around the edges to hold the liner in place. My notes say the liner is 15 x 12 feet. As you can see there is plenty of liner. I had a seperate piece for the waterfall (10 x 4), but found that I did not need it. Keep extra liner in case you have to repair any leaks. I could use my spare liner to create a stream, but I don't have the space. Perhaps another small pond, someday. What I would do differently, at this point would be to put a cement edging all around the pond about 2 - 3 inches deep and 6 inches wide for the edging rocks to sit on for a firm surface that does not breakdown and fall behind the liner. Put the liner over top of the cement edging and the edging rocks over the liner.
