Red elderberry Sambucus racemosa subsp. pubens is a highly branching, large shrub with green foliage, white clusters of tiny flowers, and clusters of red berries to follow. Red elderberry is native to British Columbia and is typically found growing in wooded areas with moist soils and dappled shade. It provides an excellent food source for pollinators and birds with its flowers and fruits. This grows across the path from the compost bin in the woodland garden room.
