2000 Trafalgar bus tour of Bohemia
April 21 - Warsaw to Krakou - Hot again. Long bus ride. Stop to see the black madonna at the monastery that has a very ornate church, at Częstochowa, to lunch across the road. Pick up local guide at Krakou to go to see a castle up a long hill. Its closed because of Easter - I see people going in and buying tickets. We go to a square and waited around for an hour. The bus has hydralics problems. This is our second bus and driver. Back to hotel and then out to a Jewish restuarant for dinner and entertained by 4 person band doing traditional music. Good dinner. Krakou is a pretty town with a river through the middle as opposed to Warsaw being modern and industrial.
April 22 - Krakou to Budapest. Up at 5:30 to breakfast and on the bus at 7:10 to go to the salt mines. Statutes, chandeliers carved from rock salt. There is a chapel down here where people go to get married, and a hospital for asthma patients. Then down the road and up into the mountains on our way to the border between Slovekia and Poland where we have to wait again while they look over our passports - on to a wonderfull lunch - soup, salad, chicken, dessert, wine, coffee. More bus riding to the border of Slovakia and Hungary and Tadeus pisses off the customs guy and we have ever so much more waiting. Finally through and on to Budapest. We get lost trying to find the hotel. Tadeus takes a cab and we follow in the bus. Finally get to our hotel and down to dinner... loud raucous music while we try to eat, good meal though.
