Budapest, Hungary
Day 16, November 6, 2005
Uniworld Version: Another full day to explore the delights of historic Budapest. The City offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, good food and wine, along with 2,000 years of history.
Optional excursion for the afternoon: Godollo Palace
Summer Residence to the beloved Empress Elisabeth-Sissi, wife of Franz Josef, the Palace of Godollo is the second largest Baroque palace in the world. Your fully guided excursion takes you through the palace and gardens as well as the Royal Stables and Riding School. At the end of the tour, enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee at the elegant Palace Café.
Also: Tour Budapest by night, dinner and music included.
My version: Pat and I walk into the City and shop a bit. I find the DaVinci Code in English paperback and he finds a good big map of Europe. We go back for the tour to Godollo Palace after lunch. We are not allowed cameras or coats in the Palace and seem to be crowded into tiny rooms for far too long while listening to the history of the place. There are other people along on our tour (not from our first group) to make the crowd bigger and more stuffy. We do not get to see the riding school or have our coffee in the café, but are served a nice drink while standing about the entry way. I, thereafter, go back to the bus and get my camera and we walk through the park but its dark by now. Photos are hardly worth posting.
We get back to the Ship and have a bit of time to freshen up and then back on the bus for our optional tour of Budapest at night. More stories and information. Our dinner and the entertainment is very good – very energetic dancers, lovely costumes and exquisite violin. Back to the ship with live music with Gito in the lounge. We sail for Kalocsa at 11:45.
Pat is suffering a horrible cold. This seems to be going around the ship with some of us more ill than others. When we get home the Doctor finds that Pat has infected sinuses and is medicated and recovers in a few days.
All along we have had information briefings by our tour director, Doris, in the lounge.
