Day 18, November 8, 2005
Mohacs, Hungary
Uniworld version: Enjoy a full day cruising on the tranquil Danube with Croatia on one side and Serbia on the other. Be on deck as your ship passes by the impressive Petrovaradin Fortress on the high right bank of the Danube as you make your way to Belgrade, Serbia.
We clear customs at 9:30. The boats were all crammed in along the docks, waiting to clear customs from Hungary into Serbia. As you can see in one of the photos the water on the Danube is very low at this time. We do not go off the ship today. Doris (our Tour Director) and some of the staff talk about their expectations and situations with regard to working in the EU. I got the impression that some of the EU countries are still not too sure if this is a good idea for them, or not. It’s a real plus for the poorer countries but there is inflation and other factors in other countries. The people have to learn to deal with currency that is not their own traditional money. As travelers it is very nice not to have to be changing money every day and being left with coins and paper that you can never use again. Everyone takes credit cards, Euros and US dollars now, so it is no longer a difficulty.
